To avoid any other discontents, the New Mexico Legislature passed the Body Art Safe Practices Act, which will require tattoo parlours to respect some specific rules. This law will be applied, but you can also do your part by being on the lookout for possible dangers. You can start by saying “No” to the tattoos done in your neighbor’s house, and try to go to a professional artist. This may be a little expensive but it guarantee your health, which is more important than money are.
When you go to get a tattoo, make sure that the tattoo needle is new and clean. Most artists will open the packet in front of you, but if they don’t do this, you may ask them to. The equipment that they will use in this procedure should be placed in an autoclave machine which needs to kill all the germs that might exist on the equipment. They also need to wear special, clean gloves and discard all the used equipment, such as ink, or ointment.
Afterwards is your responsibility to take care of your new tattoo. You need to leave the bandage for an hour. After removing it wash the tattoo with an antibacterial soap and luke warm water. Using a towel try to dry the tattoo without scrubbing. Apply an antibiotic ointment on the tattoo while it is gonna peel and don’t start picking at the area. Try to avoid exposing the tattoo in the sun and keep it away from water for two weeks.
If your tattoo doesn’t look too well after you have respected all those advices, then go to a physician.
